April 26, 2018, Metro West Fire Protection District, Wildwood Missouri -
Retired Fire Chief Jim Silvernail Dies at Age 74.

It is with great sadness the Metro West Fire Protection District and
Mehlville Fire Protection District announces the passing of Retired Fire
Chief Jim Silvernail. Chief Silvernail was a visionary for the Fire and
Emergency Services in the St. Louis region.

He was staunchly committed to advancing our agencies ability to provide the
highest level of fire, rescue, and emergency services to the citizens we
serve. His vision has drastically changed the face of fire department
interagency cooperation in the region and the organizational advancement of
the Metro West and Mehlville Fire Districts.

In retirement, Chief Silvernail remained extremely active in the regional
fire service. He served on the Board of the Backstoppers, an organization
that is devoted to supporting the families of fallen firefighters and police
officers in the region. His passion and commitment to the men and women of
the St. Louis Regional fire service, law enforcement agencies, their
families, and the mission of public safety was his life. He was a tremendous
ambassador to the community for that organization and the important work
they do each day.

"Chief Silvernail's impact on the Fire Service and his community is
immeasurable. Hundreds of area firefighters have learned from and now
continue the legacy of the Chief." - G. Michael Krause, Chief, Metro West
Fire District.

"The fingerprints that Chief Silvernail left on the Mehlville Fire District
are very evident today. He was a staunch advocate for both the firefighters
and the citizens; his contributions to our organization will be forever
appreciated." -Brian Hendricks, Chief, Mehlville Fire District.

Chief Silvernail was a 43-year veteran of the professional fire service,
serving with the Creve Coeur, Metro West, and Mehlville fire districts. He
was a tremendous ambassador for the fire service, and ESPECIALLY for the
communities that he was entrusted to protect.
