Larry Dean Mead
(September 23, 1949 - February 26, 2018) 

Larry Dean Mead, age 68, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away on Monday,
February 26, 2018 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia,
Missouri, while his son Larry Dale, held his hand. 

Larry was born at Staton Hospital in Carrollton, Missouri on September 23,
1949, the son of Jesse Andrew and Helen (Beeler) Mead. 

Larry attended school in Carrollton and later enlisted in the United States
Army on December 8, 1969. He served his country for nearly eight years and
received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct
Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign
Medal with Device Sharpshooting M-16, and two Overseas Bars. He held the
Rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on May 26, 1977. After his
service in the Army, he returned to Carrollton, where he devoted his life to
public service, and spent his entire working career taking care of others.
Larry held different positions with various entities in Carroll County such
as: a Carrollton City Police Officer, Animal Control Officer, a dispatcher
for the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, First Responder, and a tow
truck operator. For Larry's 25th anniversary with the Carrollton Fire
Department, he received the coveted golden axe. He spent nearly 30 years as
a dedicated Volunteer Firefighter for Carrollton Fire Department serving the
community of Carroll County. Larry received the Volunteer Fire Fighter of
the Year Award three times, as well as a trophy for the most calls made by a
Volunteer Firefighter. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and risk
his own life to save others if called upon to do so. Larry was a member of
Pence-Lovell-England Post # 1773 Veterans of Foreign Wars. 

Larry is survived by two sons, Johnny Asher-Mead and wife Dawn, of
Cleveland, Texas, and Larry Dale Mead and wife Heather, of Carrollton,
Missouri; two step-children, Josh Fizer and wife Merissa, and Sherry
Ritchie, all of Carrollton, Missouri; siblings, Gary Mead and wife Carol, of
Carrollton, Missouri, Robert Mead and wife Dorothy, of the State of
California, Bill Pautz and wife Maxine, of Fort Mead, Florida, Frank Pautz
and wife Edith, of Marshall, Missouri, and Brooks Brown, of Enid, Oklahoma;
six grandchildren, Logan Mead, Sawyer Walker, Glendyn Jennings, Zachary
Price, Andrew Asher and Jessica Asher; and best friend, Dianna Ritchie, of
Carrollton, Missouri. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Helen Mead; and one son,
Dennis Mead, in infancy. 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m.
until 12:45 p.m., at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway,
Carrollton, Missouri. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Bittiker
Funeral Home with Reverend Pat Jones officiating. Larry will be laid to rest
at Oak Hill Cemetery Carrollton, Missouri. Full Military Honors will be
provided by Pence-Lovell-England Post # 1773 Veterans Of Foreign Wars. 

During Larry's visitation, Honor Guards will be held at attention, in honor
and in respect of Larry's service to Carroll County Fire Protection District
and the many lives he has helped save. 

A Carrollton Fire Truck will escort the Funeral Procession to Larry's final
resting place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri, where Full
Military Honors will be provided by Pence-Lovell-England Post #1773 Veterans
of Foreign Wars, and Colors will be presented by the United States Army. 

Last Call will be given by the Carrollton Fire Department.
